We have recently purchased a Stihl RMA 448 RV roller mower at Abbotswood. This now enables us to stripe the lawns without using the older petrol powered mowers.

This was it's first use, and on a lawn that we have not striped before. The lawn was a nice easy shape, being large and rectangular, but did have a few little obstacles in it, such as a large 400 year old Corylus avellana near the center, and a few patches of Crocus that need to be avoided so that the energy from photosynthesis can go back down into the bulbs, to produce flowers next year.

Before setting off, i did a couple of small test cuts, these were to ascertain what height setting i should use. Setting 3 was the one I chose for this situation.

I then began to cut the grass, making sure to leave nice straight lines behind me and making sure to have a wheel width overlap on every line.

After the lines were cut, I cut two lines around the obstacles to finish it off and make the lawn look very neat and sharp.

The last thing I had to do, was use the lawn edging sheers around the edge of the lawn. this finishes off the job nicely

Using the new mower was a delight, it is much lighter than the petrol ones I've used previously, and much more maneuverable, making the job feel a lot less hard work, and good for my longevity in this carreer.
